Skilled Migration

Skilled migration is for Points Tested skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis who does not have an employer to sponsor them.

You can apply as an independent skilled migrant or sponsored by a family member/relative, or nominated by a State or Territory government. 

Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189)

  • This visa is a points-based visa for independent skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, a state or territory, or a family member/relative
  • 189 visa holders can live and work permanently anywhere in Australia
  • Member of family units can be included in the application

Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)

  • This visa is a points-based visa for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory
  • 190 visa holder has to be committed to live in the State Sponsoring them for at least 2 years after their visa is granted
  • Member of family units can be included in the application

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491)

  • This visa is a points-based visa for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory or sponsored by an eligible family member/relative living in a designated regional area in Australia
  • It is valid for five years, and visa holders must live and work in a designated regional area
  • 491 visa holder who has lived for at least 3 years and worked full time for at least 3 years with certain number of taxable incomes in a designated regional area, and has compiled with the conditions of the visa can apply for Permanent Residency under 191 Visa
  • Member of family units can be included in the application

Skilled Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485)

Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) allows international students who have completed 2 academic years  of study to work and live in Australia temporarily.

 This visa has to be applied within 6 months after course completion. This Visa 485 visa is a popular Visa option for International Students after their course completion.

This visa has two streams

Graduate Workstream

Normally for international students who applied their first student visa before 5 November 2011 or completing other than bachelor degree, bachelor degree with honours, masters by coursework degree, masters (extended) degree, masters by research degree, doctoral degree.

Specific additional requirements:

  • Nominate an occupation on MLTSSL
  • Evidence of Skill Assessment
  • Meet 2 years study in the last 6 months ( Must closely related to nominated occupation) OR if you are outside Australia for some or all of the period between 1 February 2020 and 19 September 2020 and last 12 months
  • 1.5 years duration

Post-Study Workstream

For international students who:

  • Applied for, and was granted, your FIRST student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011
  • Have completed an eligible qualification from an Australian educational institution bachelor degree, bachelor degree with honours, masters by coursework degree, masters (extended) degree, masters by research degree, doctoral degree.
  • 2, 3 (Master by Research) or 4 (PhD) years duration
